How often do I operate coherently?

How often do I do what I feel? Feel what I think? Trust in what I do?

A 10-week journey to go as deep as you’d like to go within yourself

What is this Cohort?

This is a unique opportunity to do a deep dive within yourself using practical tools from the wisdom of the Enneagram. I will guide you on a packed-full, 10-week virtual journey where we’ll use the teachings of the Enneagram within our own life to see where we’ve fallen asleep to ourselves.

This cohort teaches:

  • why I am the way I AM

  • the dynamics at play in our relationships

  • what my innate gifts are

  • practical tools to work with ego

  • a Consilient theory about spirituality and the origin of everything

  • how to use inner work to improve our life

All Classes will be pre-recorded and become available on a Weekly basis.

This is a go-at-your-own-pace course

Intro Video (2:35)

Classes will be a mixture of a 7-min grounding practice, Lecture-Style teaching with Keynote presentation, and A guided experiential exercise or TWO to access the somatic + heartfelt sense of what we’re learning.

•••

There will be a bite-size inner reflection to do every week on your own (delivered at the end of every class).

What is the Enneagram?

enēə [Greek] = 9 ・ gram [English] = symbol

The Enneagram is a psychospiritual tool that merges ancient wisdom with modern science.

The Enneagram itself did not invent anything— it’s a system that organizes information that has existed for thousands of years. It has roots in Buddhism, Hinduism, and Sufism (the mystical expression of Islam), and has been expanded upon using modern psychology and the field of neuroscience.

George Gurdjieff (1920s)—who is known as the “father of the modern Enneagram”—was an Armenian mystic/seeker, who worked with the Enneagram symbol (origins unknown) before there was ever a typology system. Gurdjieff taught about the relationship between Personality + Essence, and how the intelligence of the body, heart, and mind are all needed for real transformation to occur.

In the 1950s, Chilean-born philosopher, Oscar Ichazo synthesized his research of Neoplatonism, mystical Christianity, and the Kabbala and deduced 9 different psychological structures (aka egos), and overlayed them intelligently onto the Enneagram symbol—which was the birth of the typology. In the 1970s psychiatrist, Claudio Naranjo went to South America to study under Ichazo and subsequently brought this knowledge back to Berkley, California, where it then spread throughout North America.

Essentially, the Enneagram shows us 9 different ways the human psyche develops from birth (or you could think of it as 9 personality types). The Enneagram reveals precise patterns that form and harden as a result of our instinctual drive to survive. As humans, we have all 9 types (or set of patterns) in us, but we will unconsciously favor one type over all the others. That’s our dominant Enneagram type/point.

If I don’t know my Type…

The best way to figure out your dominant Enneagram type is by reading a summary of all 9 and narrowing down what resonates*. It’s great to do this with a coach or teacher, but that’s not necessary.

You also can take an online test. Tests are around 65-70% accurate.

* Tip: Your type is probably revealed when reading a certain type summary you…

  • think, "Well that’s just everybody.”

  • start laughing from how it’s resonating

  • feel uncomfortable, exposed

Blueprint

ex. Type 6

A major portion of Enneagram work is about self-observation.

Once we know our dominant Type, the Enneagram gives us a BLUEPRINT— we can start to "catch ourselves in the act" doing any of the below. If we're paying attention, we will catch ourselves multiple times a day doing these behaviors (this is for Type 6, other Types have different behaviors and motivations to look out for).

The magic starts to happen as we start being able to separate our self from the behavior. Then we start to see those feelings/behaviors are just surface level things, and who we truly are (our essence—or what’s beyond personality), is underneath. Old personality patterns literally just fall away after a certain amount of time of observing them.

There's an alchemy to this work: we’re transmuting our own suffering into what makes it so special to be alive—the beauty, intimacy and wonder of existence.

Type 6 Journey: ANGST —> COURAGE

(HOVER OVER IMAGES TO READ EXAMPLES)

ex. If I’m late meeting my friend then they might think I’m not reliable, then they won’t be able to trust me, then they’ll like me less, and eventually we probably won’t be friends.

PASSION: ANGST

Hypervigilance. Irrationally overthinking a scenario. Also known as anxiety.

ex. My friend probably thinks X-Y-Z when I bring up this particular subject.

DEFENSE MECHANISM: PROJECTION

Unconsciously disowning a belief we have internally, and projecting it externally.

This is sometimes easily detectible and other times very hard to notice when it’s happening (which is the case for all of the defense mechanisms for all the Types).

ex. I should get a second opinion about this gift idea because I’m not sure if Mom will like it.

FIXATION: DOUBT/WORRY

We doubt ourselves when we're not feeling grounded. Second-guessing, getting opinions from others, needing someone else's approval are all signs our angst is running the show.

ex. If “YOU” think it’s ok, then it’s ok. The ok-ness comes from a partner, parent, client, teacher, colleagues, children, boss, community etc.

6s can have a hard time feeling stable or secure or empowered from just our own beliefs.

Do we look for security from our community and others (SO)?

Do we look for security from our partner (SX)?

Do we look for security from the physical world: money, home, health (SP)?

OBJECT RELATIONS THEORY: ATTACHMENT

6s attach to what we think will bring us security, protection, guidance or stability. To do this we, unconsciously, assign "authority status" to whatever will bring us that security, and consequently view ourselves as powerless. Can you notice when you've given up your power (aka AGENCY) to someone, or something, else who you deem has more power, or say, in the situation than you...

ENERGETIC LINES: 9 & 3

We can take on the traits—in a healthy or unhealthy way—of the two points connected to our dominant point.

When 6s are not feeling present we may start to look like the low sides of point 9 or point 3.

9: numb out, make a religion out of relaxation

3: dissociate from feelings and focus on tasks, grasp for security by doing whatever it takes to not be rejected by the thing that bring us security, competitive mind

When 6s are present and grounded we can look like the high sides of these points.

INSTINCT: SO, SX, SP

Knowing our subtype (SO 6, SX 6, or SP 6) reveals where our desire for security, stability and guidance is dominant.

Who is this Cohort for?

ANYONE.

My interest in teaching the Enneagram is about giving people the information they need to transform their own reality. I believe becoming more conscious on an individual level also then serves the collective. This course is designed for people to take practical skills into their daily lives and see what happens.

Beginners: If you don’t know your Type, I’d be happy to do a type reading with you ahead of the Course free of charge.

Advanced: If you’ve been working with the Enneagram for a long time, I think this will be refreshing.

My teaching includes bridging the gap between ego & spirituality, the neurobiology behind the Enneagram (Dr. Dan Siegel), and a fresh take on Object Relations (recently discovered by Josh Lavine).

No matter our starting point,

This is an opportunity to untangle, love on, & transform the unconscious Parts of ourselves.

About Me

Marika Litz

I am a Certified Professional Enneagram Teacher through the Shift Network’s Enneagram Certification Program led by Russ Hudson, Jessica Dibb and Gayle Scott. I have personally been using the Enneagram as a tool for self-development since 2012.

I was born and raised in the Midwest, to an atheist father and Greek Orthodox mother. I grew up having no strong connection to spirituality or religion (you could say basketball was my religion).

I now live in Brooklyn, NY. By day I’m a film colorist (as you’ll see from the rest of this website), and by night I find myself delving deeper into my studies of consciousness—from spirituality, to psychology, to psychedelics, to past lives, to ancient civilizations and beyond.

I very much believe our lives are our own life curriculum, and if we’re listening and open, then the next steps on our path will make themselves known. Offering this course to you is the next step in my personal curriculum. I share this wisdom as a teacher and as a student. Everything we do is part of our personal evolution (for better or for worse), and I’m excited to take this next step beside you as we both continue on our path.

My pronouns are they/them.
